Member of Congress accepts nominations for US military academies | New
Each year, Representative Jake Ellzey will receive inquiries from Congressional District 6 students who wish to attend a military service academy. One of the requirements for candidacy for all service academies in the United States except the United States Coast Guard Academy is appointment by a government official. This appointment is required for students wishing to enter the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY; the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD; the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO; and the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. The nominator is usually a member of Congress, and students in Congressional District 6 should apply for an appointment to Congressman Ellzey’s office and to the offices of Sen. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz.
“One of the honors of serving as a member of the United States Congress is the ability to nominate local students to military service academies. Our district students traditionally do very well in academies, and I’m happy to do my part to ensure the community continues to provide some of the next generation of outstanding military leaders, ”said Ellzey.
Successful applicants will have a broad academic background, the ability to pass a physical aptitude test and strong leadership potential. A candidate must also be a U.S. citizen, a high school graduate between the ages of 17 and 23, single, no dependents, and of high character. Acceptance of an appointment to a service academy requires a service obligation of at least nine years, including four years in an academy and five years of active service.
“This appointment is very dear to me as a graduate of the Naval Academy. It was a wonderful experience that led to my 20 year military career serving this great nation. It was the opportunity to meet and be alongside some of the best men and women I have ever met.
If you wish to be considered for appointment to a service academies by Congressman Ellzey, you must apply by November 15 to be considered for the class entering service academies in July 2022. Please contact Julie .loose @ mail.house.gov for more information and to request an application.
