TEDx Talks arrive in Lima

LIMA – Many of us are familiar with the Ted Talks you’ve seen on YouTube, where there’s only one person on stage discussing a variety of topics ranging from advice to success to the art of lending. Warning.

For the first time, a Ted Talks program came to Lima.

On Saturday, TEDxFaurotPark brought together a series of speakers at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center to discuss everything from Systemic Happiness for a Better World from Aimee Bucher to How storytelling changes Meg Adams’ perspective.

Bucher was the licensee and executive producer of the event.

“It takes a person to apply for the permit, present the vision and implement it all and that was me,” said Bucher.

The eight speakers who made presentations on Saturday were reduced by 30 original candidates.

“The whole idea behind TED and TEDx are ideas worth spreading. So we picked people who had really interesting ideas, you know, different perspectives, different ways of seeing the world that weren’t heard before. we wanted to stage, ”said Bucher.

Rae Neal, an integrative nurse practitioner from Lima, spoke about Common Sense Medicine during her Tedx session.

“It’s really about the fact that what kills us today is not what killed us 100 years ago. I believe our focus needs to shift to deal with the conditions that are really causing us our problems today and I think we can do that by acknowledging much of our past and how healthy they have stayed in the past might really help us be healthier today, ”said Neal.

Meg Adams, professor of communication at the University of Findlay, spoke about How storytelling changes perspective.

“This is something that I have been studying for about ten years and it is something that has really influenced my life and when I saw the TED call for ideas going out I thought here is a idea that I have been sitting on for a while and I really feel made a powerful impact on my own personal list and especially over the past 20 months with how things have become divided. Hope my talk can help people come together a bit more, ”Adams said.

Organizers are busy planning next year’s TEDx event, which is slated for Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center.

Maha Zehery explained to today’s Tedx just how diverse the Lima community has grown over the past 30 years and how important it is to be proud of our community and help it become again more diverse.

Dimitrios Tsatiris, a board certified psychiatrist specializing in anxiety management, explained that success will not make you happy. He spoke about the importance of managing anxiety on Saturday in downtown Lima.
