UTRGV Athletics will host football events in Brownsville

GREAT RIO VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Intercollegiate Athletics Department announced Monday that the women’s soccer team will host a free youth clinic on Aug. 6, while the men’s soccer team will host a exhibition game on August 13 in Brownsville.

The youth clinic will be held at Brownsville Sports Park from 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. and will be open to girls ages 10-18 attending elementary, middle or high school on a first-come-first-serve basis. service basis.

All attendees will be required to complete a waiver on site prior to the start of the clinic. On-site check-in and registration begins at 3:30 p.m.

“Brownsville is an important part of our community, and we’re thrilled at this opportunity to give back by offering this soccer clinic,” the UTRGV women’s soccer head coach said. The men’s team will host St. Mary’s at 6:30 p.m. at Brownsville Veterans Memorial High School. This will be the second straight year that the two programs will meet in Brownsville.

Admission to the game is free.

“Last year was fantastic,” said the UTRGV men’s football head coach. Bryheem Hancock said. “We did a few camps last spring and this summer as well in Brownsville and it’s always been a really good turnout. They’re very educated on the game and playing it the right way. The excitement and the energy that they bring to the game, as a player, it makes you want to play harder, which makes the game more fun and more exciting, so we’re looking to play there in Brownsville and keep doing that.”
