NEW ULM – Construction began on Friday on the Veterans’ Square Memorial in German Park.

Aaron Lambrect of Squared Konsrucktion, Brent Kollmann of Kollmann Construction and Nick Meidl of Meidl Construction dug a pit and began pouring concrete for the Vietnam War memorial signs.

The three crews provided the services free of charge as an in-kind donation for the memorial project.

The Vietnam War panels are the first phase of the Veterans Square proposal. The monument will honor the six men who graduated from New Ulm Schools who were killed in action during the Vietnam War: Dennis Wellmann, Daniel Lloyd, Henry Polzin, Timothy Sullivan, Steven Seemann and Rickey Slander.

The planned installation of the Vietnam panels is in late summer or fall.
